The Horizon Network is a social initiative aimed at addressing social and economic barriers, financial well-being and overall quality of life for migrant women in New Delhi. It begins with a simple observation: the support these women need largely exists in various forms, but the information about it is dispersed across various institutions and agencies, which is invisible to the people it is designed for.
Hence the project will first carry out an anonymous interview series that would provide information about the lives of migrant women. It would cover the issues they have to deal with, including family separation, economic problems, isolation, mental wellbeing, and adaptation to a new place. Through this initiative, an eight-chapter guidebook will be developed that will provide practical guidance in financial decision-making. The guide will be in very simple language, covering budgeting and household management, maintaining a bank account, acquiring and using digital payments, saving, learning about interest and credit, identifying scams, dealing with debts, and setting longer-term objectives. This will be accompanied by a regularly updated database that will contain information about welfare programs, funds, employment programs, and healthcare services available to migrant women in Delhi. The information will be collected in one place and will be further provided to the partner NGOs to assist women in finding the right services and opportunities.
A skilling program will also be launched to connect women with vocational training by customising it according to their circumstances and interests. It will cover financial literacy, workplace navigation and employment rights, and long-term economic resilience. A workshop series will be delivered directly through sessions on themes including economic self-sufficiency, workforce participation, employment preparedness, and building the confidence needed to approach employers, public services and financial institutions. Together with these, a virtual fundraiser campaign will be initiated to support both partner NGO’s programs and direct material assistance for women and their families, covering essential household needs and livelihood support.
Overall, the project aims to provide migrant women with the knowledge and skills that would help them rebuild stability, confidence, and opportunity.
